The Import Specialist is responsible for supporting import requirements as required by US Customs and Border Protection for entry of goods into the US on behalf of importers. This position requires working knowledge and a demonstrated ability to properly navigate and understand U.S. Customs and International Chamber of Commerce import regulations. You must possess the ability to read, understand and apply these regulations.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Obtain and create quotes for shipments and source best method of transportation.
- Organize transport with overseas agents to ensure proper pre-alerts and documentation.
- Establish clear and concise communications both internally and externally
- Audit and assess importer compliance with U.S. Customs regulations
- Track and trace shipments, and provide updates to clients daily.
- High attention to detail is a must for this position
- Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
- Superior organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Maintain complete and accurate records on all client projects
- Excellent customer service skills, including written and verbal communication
- Contribute to departmental improvements
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
- Ability to apply and assist with communicating laws, rules, and regulations in areas of assignment.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently; ability to communicate and interact effectively with multi-functional and diverse backgrounds; ability to read, comprehend, and write basic correspondence;
- Effectively present information one-on-one or in a small group situation; identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with U.S. Customs importation requirements
- Strong commitment to team engagement and growth
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required
