Forwarders Push Back On Unreasonable Rises In Demurrage-Detention!

For many years we have seen a drastic fluctuation in detention, demurrage, and free-time alloted for full container loads (FCL). This has allowed the steamship lines full control of how, and when you get your container. With the increase in the dollar amounts on the invoices, and a decrease in time, many forwarders are pushing back questioning if this is ethical. As a counter argument, the steamship lines and ocean carriers stress the need of these fees to push shippers to pick up cargo in a timely manner. This does not account for the hundreds of  uncontrollable issues shippers face with ocean freight such as port congestion, inclement weather, and capacity issues.
